My name is Oliver Thurtle and I'm a professional, passionate Graphic and Web Designer. I have been working in the design industry for 5 years, and have a Graphic Communication and Typography degree from Reading University. I spend a large amount of my time designing and creating for a variety of clients.
I keep up-to-date with modern design trends and am always looking to push the boundaries with new skills and software.
I have an odd love for type, I like to get my geek on, and I carry a handkerchief.
So, what sort of design can you do?
Over the years I've honed my skills over a variety of design areas. I'm a trained print designer, and have a Typography and Graphic Communication degree from the University of Reading, but i spend the majority of my time working on digital projects from concept through to completion. I spend my time designing websites, e-marketing material, motion projects and 3D models.
Hold on, you can code as well, thats quite rare isn't it?!
Yes, i do spend lots of my time coding. I'm competent in HTML, CSS, Action Script and am faily competent in PHP and JQuery So im fortunate to be able to visually design, as well as design in the back-end. This website itself is coded entirely by hand.
Aren't all websites done in CMS these days anyway?
Content management systems play a large part in web design today, it brings the control to people who aren't necerssarily web designers. So you don't have to be a code geek, to be able to design a website. I'm often building websites in Wordpress, Drupal and Joomla!
Where do you work?
Currently I work in London at JCDecaux, the worlds largest out-of-home advertising company, and when I'm not causing trouble there, I can be found completing Freelance Work for a variety of clients.
Wow, you seem a busy guy- how do you spend your free time?
When i'm not designing I try to stay active by going to the gym and jogging. I have a keen passion for art and photography. When I get the chance to, I love skiing and rock climbing. I also have a keen interest in music, and can often be found at a gig, or DJing.
I want to talk to you over tea and crumpets! How do I do that?
